Barclays' commitment to tackling climate change together

20 January 2023

Our climate strategy is informed by our purpose: we deploy finance responsibly to support people and businesses, acting with empathy and integrity, championing innovation and sustainability, for the common good and the long term.

Here are some of the ways we’re helping to support the transition to a low-carbon economy:

  • Setting a target in 2018 to facilitate £100 billion of financing specifically focused on green activities by 2030
  • Helping the farming sector become more sustainable and energy efficient, with support for more sustainable agriculture
  • Investing up to £175 million of Barclays’ own capital in sustainability-focused start-ups by 2025
  • Offering residential homebuyers lower interest rates on mortgages for new-build properties meeting energy efficiency requirements
  • Exploring how we can best help our residential mortgage customers take steps towards making energy efficiency related home improvements, with our pilot Greener Home Reward scheme
  • Managing and offering the Barclays Multi-Impact Growth Fund, which brings together a range of external funds focused upon holding companies that aim to have a positive impact on either the environment or society
