Charity Seminar - Ctrl+Alt+Defend

Quilter Cheviot

As charities navigate increasing regulatory demands, rapid technological change and heightened scrutiny, trustees must balance opportunity with risk.

We are pleased to invite you to an in-person charity seminar where we will explore the key issues shaping the sector and share practical insights to help you respond with confidence. This session will bring together expert perspectives from Quilter Cheviot, Crowe, Netcom and West Midlands Police.

What we will cover:

• Balancing mission, ethics and returns

• Charities SORP and FRS 102 updates

• Strengthening the charity sector through digital skills

• Cyber threats, fraud and practical protection

Quilter Cheviot – Balancing mission, ethics and returns

Trustees are increasingly asking their investment managers how they should invest in line with their charity’s purpose and vales. In this session, Charities Director, Charles Mesquita and Investment Manager, Mark Bates will explore a pragmatic approach to responsible investment. They will focus on how trustees can evidence a robust decision-making process and navigate ethical and reputational considerations in a thoughtful and defensible way—without prescribing “right” or “wrong” answers.

Crowe – Charities SORP and FRS 102 updates

(Effective for financial years starting on or after 1 January 2026)

Helen Blundell, Social Purpose and Non-Profits Partner at Crowe, will outline key accounting and reporting changes under the revised Charities SORP and FRS 102, including updates to income recognition (grants, donations and contracts), lease capitalisation, and enhanced Trustees’ Report requirements with revised reporting tiers.

Netcom – Strengthening the charity sector through digital skills

Dan Rodrigues, Employer Engagement Manager at Netcom will discuss how AI, cybersecurity and emerging technologies are reshaping the operating environment for charities. He will discuss why digital capability has become a ‘must’ and is no longer nice to have, and how these skills can help make organisation more resilient and communities stronger.

West Midlands Police – Cyber threats, fraud and practical protection

Cyber attacks happen daily and charities are not immune. Detective Neil Howels from West Midlands Regional Cyber Crime Unit will discuss the growing threat of cybercrime, drawing on his experience investigating attacks. He will share practical insights on how organisations can stay safe and protect their online presence and reputation.
