About McCarthy Denning

We are a next generation law firm, with, since formation, a division dedicated to advising charities, not for profits and social enterprises. Established with the vision of transforming the way in which legal services are provided, we ensure that the firm is designed to support the needs of our clients. Use of technology and innovative, collaborative and agile working practices means clients pay for intellectual capacity and expertise, instead of expensive overheads and infrastructure. A full-service firm, we are widely respected for our refreshingly straightforward approach. We are focused on building strong client relationships and providing confident, strategic and commercial advice. We seek to work in the most appropriate way for each of our clients, offering an individual service so that we can become your virtual in-house counsel. You will always deal directly with the lawyer you have instructed and our lawyers offer flexible fee arrangements. Charities, not for profits and social enterprises have elements unique to them, whilst also needing legal support in the same way as any other organisation. We use our specialist knowledge to provide advice to a wide range of charities in respect of all legal issues encountered by them. Many of our lawyers serve as charity trustees themselves and some also have in-house charity experience: we understand, from both sides of the fence, the challenges, opportunities and problems charities face. We advise organisations with all types of legal structure, in all locations, pursuing a diverse range of causes. These include grant makers, benevolent funds, Royal Charter bodies, livery company charities, “in house” charities of businesses, public sector services and UK and international cross border charities. Causes range from arts, cultural and heritage, education, social care, medical, scientific research, independent schools, sports and recreation, military, faith, almshouses, community organisations, the environment and animal welfare. We are delighted to assist charities with everything they face in their lifetimes, from formation through to winding up. Our charities team sees and advises on the day to day issues faced by charities, and those working with charities, as well as those complex and unusual matters which may only arise once in a generation. We look forward to working with you.
