We believe that targeted return portfolios can deliver a targeted absolute return over cash or inflation, equivalent to long-term equity returns, with considerably less than equity risk.
The key to success is good strategic and, above all, dynamic asset allocation. We believe that this is an effective way for investors to achieve real growth in their assets with reduced volatility.
Central to our belief is that long-term returns from all assets are primarily driven by slow moving macro-economic variables. Our strategies are determined by combining our long- term forecasts for each asset with its volatility profile, together with its correlation with all other available assets. However, short-term volatility within asset classes means that these long-term results are often delivered in uneven blocks. Therefore, there is a need for dynamic asset allocation to smooth the pattern of returns from different asset classes.
We implement our strategy via active segregated portfolios and direct investments, pooled funds and passive vehicles and we depend on the returns available in different markets.
The Targeted Return Fund is a dedicated common investment fund for charities, targeting an inflation plus objective of Consumer Price Index (CPI) +5% over a rolling three year period (which is approximately equivalent to Retail Price Index (RPI) +3% over the long term). We also aim to deliver an income of CPI +1% as part of the total return. Please note that the targeted total return is not guaranteed.
